2010 EVENT REPORT

BB10: September 10-12 2010

PREMIER PARTNERS:

CK5.com: Steve Fox started it all in 2002 and continues to host BlazerBash.com and the Blazer Bash open discussion forum on the CK5.com website. We always appreciate everything he does to keep the event going.

Big Horn Graphics: Donated all of the printed material used for the event including the vendor stickers in the registration packets, event stickers, BBQ banner, and trail run handouts.

DIY4x: Provided a large cash donation to help cover event costs. They also donated several door prizes including a pair of 5” & 6” UDSR shackles, (3) 14bFF disc brake conversion kits, and competition motor mounts. They also donated a set of tube doors for fund raising donation to Red Rocks 4wheelers Multiple Use Defense fund which raised $380.

Hefty Fabworks: Donated a choice of tubular or plate style winch bumper.

Offroad Design: The ORD crew prepared and served all the food at this year’s BBQ including homemade brownies for dessert. In addition, they provided numerous door prize items and helped get people back to camp after a difficult day on the trail.

Ruffstuff Specialties: Provided a large cash donation to help cover event costs

FRIDAY

The first day of the event consisted of 2 trail runs. The largest group of trucks spent the day at Area BFE doing open, unguided trail runs through out the private offroad park.

A smaller group of 7 trucks headed out to Hey Joe Canyon trail. It was not a technically challenging trail, well suited for stock to mild trucks. The scenery on the first half of the trail run called Spring Bottom Canyon was spectacular. The group did run into a section of washed out trail that caused the group to turn back and head to town.

Friday evening was the Offroad Design BBQ at the Old City Park in Moab. Excellent food for over 100 people was prepared and served by Offroad Design, including a yummy dessert. Following dessert, the Jason Payne Memorial trophy was awarded to Matt Norby and his S10 hybrid truggy as voted on by the attendees. Following that, the raffle drawing was held and numerous big smiles were witnessed around the gathering.

Saturday

A total of 4 trail runs were organized for Saturday. Several trucks opted to run Hell’s Revenge. The trail offers great challenges and exhilarating experiences on the tall, narrow slickrock fins. It’s a great trail for moderately built trucks.

9 trucks opted to run the more challenging trail called Cliff Hanger. It was a good day on the trail with a clean run. Everyone enjoyed the obstacles the trail had to offer.

The largest trail run of the day was the Trifecta which consists of 3 trails; Poison Spider Mesa, Golden Spike, and Gold Bar Rim. The groups were split into 2 start times. All 3 trails are challenging by themselves, but running the 3 together makes it much more difficult and also makes for a very long day. The first small group was off the last trail after 10hrs at about 6pm. The last trucks were off the trail at around midnight after about 15hrs. It was a good reminder why you need a very capable and well prepared vehicle to tackle 3 difficult trails in one day.

The most difficult trail run of the day was Pritchett Canyon. Considered by many to be the most difficult trail on BLM land in the Moab area, a top notch truck is required to successful complete this trail. 7 trucks completed the trail with a few incidents. Any run on Pritchett Canyon is going to have moments of excitement.

Sunday

There were 2 trail runs for the final day of Blazer Bash. Both trails were in the “Behind the Rocks” area south of Moab. One group opted to run the easier Tip Toe Behind the Rocks trail that winds its way around the area crossing the better known Behind the Rocks trail as well as sharing some of the same paths. The highlights of those stretches included the Roller Coaster and Hummer Hill. The entire trail was a good mix of scenic, easy riding along with some good challenges for moderately built rigs. There was also evidence of rain damage on this trail as well.

The other group chose the more difficult Behind the Rocks trail. This trail has some notorious obstacles such as White Knuckle Hill and High Dive. The group of well built trucks tackled the trail with just a couple of problems, but despite those everyone had a good time and made it off the trail.

It was a good event and it was a lot of fun to be there this year. We’re looking forward to next year’s 10th Annual event.
